Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen is a town at the southern end of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes with a population of 1,800. The town has a motorsports history. The existing gas station and convenience store along the main north south street. The central location of this station is located along North Franklin Avenue at Old Corning Road adjacent to Watkins Glen State Park. The existing gas station and garage has 8 gas pumps and a convenience store. 

Design goals:

  • Add a garage to the existing station for converting gas powered cars to EVs.

  • Provide EV charging stations.

  • Design for regeneration with solar power added to the existing roofs and canopy.

  • Add landscaping and provide permeable paving.

  • Add a lounge for garage customers and people charging EVs.

The design is an addition to the existing station garage addition for conversion to electric vehicles. Auto manufacturers like Ford and Chevrolet have made electric motors for conversion of existing vehicles. Specialized companies like Moment Motor Co. and Zero Labs as well as Zelectric Motors convert owners’ cars to electric power. Manufacturers and parts suppliers can host events and show off vehicles during motorsports events and for tourists visiting the area as well as local residents. Gas pumps remain in place for this rural location.
